A few words with British light heavy Liam Conroy

British light heavyweight Liam Conroy (17-4-1) has warned his next opponent, Northern Ireland's Steven Ward (11-0), that he’s hell-bent on forcing a second shot at the British light heavyweight crown. Conroy was stopped by Joshua Buatsi in March for the vacant British title. On June 21st, former sparring partners Conroy and Ward collide on at Belfast’s Ulster Hall, live on ESPN+ in a ten-round match-up many see as a true 50-50 bout.

As he prepares to conquer Europe in the wake of the British title defeat to Olympian Joshua Buatsi, Conroy is determined to climb back quickly. Conroy said: “I still want to build myself back up to the British title mandatory position. It’s still my dream and I won’t stop until I get it. Hopefully I get this fight won looking good and start building towards that. Whoever’s in the way, that’s who I’m going for. I’m looking forward to boxing on the ESPN+ platform. It’s a great opportunity to showcase my skills to a wider audience in the US. I don’t think I’ll be any more nervous than normal on the night, though – it’s just exciting and what an opportunity Steve and I have been given. It’s all thanks to [my management] MTK Global.”

Joining Conroy and Ward on a stellar bill are Irish junior welterweight rivals Tyrone McKenna (18-1-1) and Darragh Foley (17-3-1), who face each other, while local favorite Paddy Gallagher (15-5) meets the undefeated Liam Wells at welterweight.
