“Quadruple WBF Showdown”

WBF PREXY, INDON FIGHTERS DUE IN MANILA TODAY

The two Indonesian competitors for the first installation of four championship bouts in the country on September 25 at the Grand Flash Ballroom of Elorde Sports Center will arrive in Manila today.

The Indon fighters, flyweight Yongki Afrizal and welterweight Ferri Wirawan, arrive from Jakarta at 1:25 p.m with their manager Pino Bahari and trainer.

Promoter Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr. will personally fetch the visitors and accompany them to the cozy Lotus Hotel in Ermita, Manila.

World Boxing Foundation (WBF) president Mick Croucher, the new owner of the Victoria, Australia-based WBF, will also arrive from Melbourne via Hong Kong around 6:30 p.m. He intends to supervise the championship fights for the four vacant WBF International titles and strengthen his ties with the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), local promoters and managers.

The 5-foot-3 Afrizal will confront hard-hitting Sukarno “Master Showman” Banjao for the vacant WBF International flyweight belt in the main event dubbed “Quadruple WBF Showdown”, while Wirawan, the 2003 Indonesian welterweight champion, will take on former two-time Philippine titlist Rey Pelonia for the WBF International welterweight crown.

The two other title bouts feature four Filipinos. Former Philippine champion Celso Danggod of Masbate battles Philippine Pro-Boxing League semifinalist Mark Sales of General Santos City for the WBF International super-flyweight belt.

Ex-PABA title challenger Benjie Sorolla and Cebu’s Rey Orais trade leathers for the WBF International minimumweight title.
