STEVENSON HOSPITALIZED, CONDITION ELEVATED TO STABLE FOLLOWING BRAIN SURGERY
By G. Leon
When Oleksandr Gvozdyk knocked out Adonis Stevenson on Saturday, it didn't look like anything other than Stevenson's long reign as the WBC champion was concluding. It appeared to be just a knockout loss in a fight where Adonis didn't really absorb an unusual amount of punishment, but as it turns out, if Stevenson was not rushed to the hospital after fainting coming out of the shower, his life may have ened. Once he was hospitalized, doctors placed Stevenson in a medically induced coma and listed him in critical condition. Sources in Montreal inform us that Stevenson underwent surgery on his brain to remove blood clots. The surgery was a success and his condition has been elevated to stable, but doctors are keeping in the coma to help facilitate his recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Stevenson family during this difficult time, and Boxingtalk wishes the former world champion a speedy and full recovery.
