GVOZDYK STOPS STEVENSON TO CAPTURE WBC LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
By G. Leon

Oleksandr Gvozdyk TKO11 Adonis Stevenson: Oleksandr Gvozdyk 16-0 (13KO),  overcame a very slow start in the first two rounds to thoroughly outbox and ultimately stop Adonis Stevenson in the eleventh round of a competitive, but one sided fight. Rounds three through 8 were all Gvozdyk's, whose footwork and lateral movement baffled Stevenson. Gvzodyk should have been credited with a knockdown in the third however referee Michael Griffin missed it. The former long reigning WBC champ deserves credit for fighting hard into the ninth and tenth rounds, where he hurt Gvozdyk and would have scored a knockdown of his own if the ropes didn't hold Gvozdyk up. Even though he lost the frame Gvozdyk finished the tenth round as the stronger man. In round eleven he landed the right hand on a consistent basis, backed Stevenson, 29-2-1 (24KO), into a corner and landed a barrage of power punches that crumpled Stevenson to the canvas forcing the bout to be stopped without a count. Source: Showtime
