Fatuma Zarika W10 Yamileth Mercado... WBC super bantamweight female champion, Fatuma Zarika of Keny, retained her title by defeating Mexico's Yamileth Mercado, who travelled all the way to Nairobi for the fight. It was Zarika's second defense.  It was a plit decision as one judge scored the fight 96-94 for Mercado, while the other two other scored it 97-93 and 99-91 for Zarika. The champion, a single mother of two daughters, interrupted her studies at age 16 to help her mother. Beginning boxing training at the age of 19 in an improvised gym, she worked tirelessly towards becoming a professional in 2000. "Winning the WBC belt changed my life, I was at the lowest point in my mind and winning was the way God asked me not to surrender," said Zarika.

Brenda Flores W10 Louisa Hawton In 102-pound action, Mexico's Brenda Flores defeated Australia's Louisa Hawton by split decision in Inglewood, California. Two judges rated the bout 97-93 and 96-94 in favor of Flores, overruling the judge who favored Hatton and 97-93. Flores won the WBC interim title with this victory. source for both results: wbc
