Congrats on your victory over Charles Martin. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? I think I put on a good show, I was actually watching the fight right now when you called me. I don't think it was that close, I had it 8-2 or 7-3 at worst, but Charles Martin came to fight and it was a great fight.
GL: Were you impressive enough to where your next fight should be a title fight or a world title eliminator?
Adam Kownacki: "Definitely, I think it's right around the corner. Maybe one or two more fights at most before I fight for a world title. I'm getting there and it's right around the corner."
GL: It looked like you hurt him in the first round...
AK: (cutting in) "I think I hurt him a couple of times, but I wasn't as impressive as I wanted to be. But I'll take a decent win over a great loss any day."
GL: When can we expect you back in the ring?
AK: "I'm not sure. I'm going to take a couple of weeks off after going a good ten rounds. I'll probably be back in the gym in a few days just to get my weight down. I think I came in a little too heavy and at the end of the fight I got a little tired."
GL: Was there anything about Martin that surprised you?
AK: "His heart man. After the fight he told me I had heart and he told me after the fight that he wanted to show the world that he was game and he did that. He took some good shots and he didn't look for a soft spot to lay down. he fought hard and we put on a great show."
GL: What did you think about the main event?
AK: "To tell you the truth I didn't watch it because I was hanging out with my fans."
GL: You mentioned your stamina late in the fight, other than that what do you feel you need to improve on?
AK: "I think everything I did was good, but it needs to be great so I need to get better in all areas."
GL: Martin fought a smart fight and wasn't looking to engage all that much. Do you think the style of the fight had to do with the performance being good, but not great? Would you have had a more exciting fight with an opponent that was more eager to engage with you?
AK: "Yes. Everytime we got close he held on. Maybe he felt my power early and decided to hold, but if he would have looked to fight with me more it would have been a different night."
GL: You got off to a much better start in this fight than you did with Kiladze.
AK: "I'm pleased with the fight, the fans liked it and it was a good performance. I wanted to make a bigger statement, but I'll take the win."
GL: Closing thoughts?
AK: "I want to thank all of my great fans for their support, it's great to have them on this journey with me."
