MEAN MACHINE TAKES NARROW DECISION OVER ABREU
By G. Leon

Kavaliauskas: Difficult to spell, more difficult to watch tonight

Egidijus Kavaliauskas UD10 Juan Carlos Abreu: Undefeated welterweight Egidijus Kavaliauskas got all he could handle in his step-up bout against Juan Carlos Abregu. Both guys had to deal with cuts suffered in the first round, Kavaliauskas (20-0, 16 KOs), was cut from a punch, and Abreu from a clash of heads. Kavaliauskas had his moments in the fight, particularly early in the bout. Abreu came on in the middle rounds and by the tenth and final round, Kavaliauskas was exhausted.  He was unable to get much on his punches and the iron chinned Abreu (21-4-1, 19 KOs).  Abreu was clearly the fresher man. He wasn't able to land anything big, though it wasn't from a lack of trying. Official scores were 97-93 (twice) and 96-94 for Kavaliauskas. Boxingtalk scored it for Kavaliauskas by the narrowest of margins, 96-94. Before the decision was announced, former world champions Andre Ward and Timothy Bradley agreed that Kavaliauskas needs a lot of work before he even thinks about fighting Terence Crawford. Ward concluded that Kavaliauskas was exposed as one-dimensional fighter and as of now, Boxingtalk wholeheartedly agrees. Source: ESPN
