VARGAS SUFFERS TWO NASTY CUTS BUT RETAINS TITLE
By Scott Shaffer

Rey Vargas W12 Oscar Negrete... At Madison Square Garden in New York City, Mexico's Rey Vargas retained his WBC 122-pound title by defeating Colombia's Oscar Negrete in a battle of undefeated super bantamweights.  The taller Vargas dominated the fight and won an easy unanimous decision by scores of 119-109 (twice) and 120-108. Punchstats credited Vargas with 255 punches landed to 109 for Negrete.  However, there was a price to be paid as headbutts left two nasty cuts over Vargas' eyes guaranteeing he will not make a quick return to the ring. Vargas is now 31-0, while Negrete is now 17-1. source: hbo
