FRAMPTON BOOKS TOUGH RETURN FIGHT FOR JULY 29TH
According to the WBC, Northern Ireland's Carl Frampton (pictured) will return to the ring against Mexico's Andres "Jaguar" Gutiérrez (35-1-1) in a WBC featherweight title eliminator on July 29th in Belfast. Frampton (23-1) is a former world champion at 122 and 126 pounds. He has not fought since losing his featherweight championship to Leo Santa Cruz in January. Guiterrez, age 23, has only lost at 130 pounds, and that was against former 115-pound champion Cristian Mijares in 2016. "I am very happy for the opportunity. I know it will be a very difficult one, but I have everything to gain," said the Mexican. Frampton said: "I'm excited to fight again at home. I was waiting for another opportunity and what's better than to fight against a great fighter?"
