Stevenson, Gaibnazarov to face separate foes in California

Press Release: Oscar Valdez, Gilberto Ramirez, and Jessie Magdaleno will defend their WBO titles on a Top Rank pay-per-view show Saturday night in Carson, California. Valdez (22-0, 19 KOs), from Nogales, Mexico, will be making the second defense of his WBO featherweight title against Miguel Marriaga (25-1, 21 KOs), from Colombia; Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs), from Mazatlan, Mexico, will be making his first defense of the WBO super middleweight title against Max Bursak (33-4-1, 15 KOs), of The Ukraine; Magdaleno (24-0, 17 KOs) of Las Vegas, will be making the first defense of his WBO junior featherweight title against Adeilson Dos Santos (18-2, 14 KOs), of Brazil.  Also on the show, New Jersey's Shakur Stevenson, the crown jewel of the 2016 U.S. Olympic team, will be making his pro debut in a six-round featherweight bout against Phoenix's Edgar Brito (3-2-1, 2 KOs). That bout will be part of the telecast.

Here is what Stevenson had to say recently:  ďPressure makes diamonds and Iím going to be a polished one in the ring with lots of facets.  I love fighting.  Itís not a job to me.  Itís a career.  Iím excited to start writing this new chapter in my book.  I canít wait for Saturday night.  I want to make a statement in this fight.  I want a KO.  Iíve had a pro style for so long that the adjustment for me has been easy.  Now I do more running and sparring, but I enjoy that.  Iím in the best shape of my life.  I get asked a lot if Iím the next Floyd Mayweather.  I have no interest in being that.  Iím all about being the first Shakur StevensonÖthe best Shakur Stevenson.   After this fight, Iím going to celebrate my pro debut with a family dinner at In-N-Out Burger, then head to Colorado Springs to train with my friend Terence Crawford.Ē

2016 Olympic light welterweight gold medalist Fazliddin ďFayziĒ Gaibnazarov, from Uzbekistan, who recently signed with Top Rank, will appear on the non-pay-per-view undercard.  Managed by Egis Klimas, Gaibnazarov will be battling Victor Vazquez (7-2, 3 KOs), from Carolina, Puerto Rico, in an eight-round junior welterweight bout. Gaibnazarov, who has had pro fights in the World Series of Boxing, is the seventh 2016 Olympian to join the Top Rank stable, which includes fellow gold medal champion Robson Conceicao, silver medalist Stevenson, and top amateurs Michael Conlan, who had his own high-profile pro debut last month, Teofimo Lopez, Antonio Vargas and Jeyvier Cintron.
