USYK OUTCLASSES HUNTER OVER DISTANCE IN FRONT OF CAPACITY CROWD
By G. Leon
Oleksandr Usyk UD12 Michael Hunter: Undefeated WBO cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, 12-0 (8), got off to a fast start in round one, throwing combinations that immediately got he respect of Michael Hunter. In rounds two and three Hunter was able to out punch Usyk while backing him up, however from then on it became the Oleksandr Usyk show. The Urkanian champion won each passing round more convincingly. Hunter was hurt several times throughout the fight and was hurt very badly to the body in the tenth round, but Hunter managed to survive the round. Usyk battered Hunter, 12-1 (8), from pillar to post in the final round and dropped him when referee Bill Clancy gave Hunter a standing eight after the ropes held him up. Clancy probably should have stopped the fight but went out of his way to afford Michael Hunter every chance of going the distance with the champion. Overall, Hunter gave a tremendous performance considering he was facing the best cruiserweight in the world following an eleven month layoff, Usyk just had too much for him over the distance. Boxingtalk scored it 118-109. Official scores were 117-110 on all three cards.
