WBA BREAKS ITS PROMISE TO REDUCE NUMBER OF BELTS
On April 3, 2017, the WBA wrote: "The WBA continues its policy of reducing titles in every weight division." On April 4, 2017, the WBA violated its policy, creating a secondary championship underneath Gennady Golovkin's super championship. The WBA posted that Cameroon's Hassan N’dam and Japan's Ryota Murata will fight for the WBA regular middleweight title on May 20th in Tokyo, Japan-- an excellent fight to be sure, but for a paper championship. The regular was the title recently held by Danny Jacobs until he lost to Gennady Golovkin last month. Murata told local reporters "I'm grateful for the opportunity to fight for the middleweight crown. I expect a very tough fight but I want to leave everything out there and return the blessing of having won an Olympic gold medal.
