GL: What's the latest and greatest Alexey? When can we expect to see you back in action? Training has been going great, I'm in the gym learning everyday. I'm getting great sparring, great boxing at the Kronk Gym in Detroit. I'm working for a step up bout, this is what I want next and I'm going to put on an impressive performance and I'm looking to get back in the ring in May or June. GL: Last time we spoke you expressed great interest in a rematch with Bejenaru. Do you think the fight will happen in the near future? I'm really hungry for this fight, I really want this fight to be my next fight. I feel that being in Detroit for a year now has made me a different fighter. I have improved a lot and I want to erase that accident from my resume.
GL: How do you feel you've improved as a fighter since the Bejenaru fight?
Alexey Zubov: "It was my first camp in Detroit and my first experience with learning new things at a new home. Now I've been able to digest all of the information and I'm much improved. I scored two knockouts in a row and I guarantee that if the rematch happens it will not go the distance. It will be over before the judges have to tally up their scorecards."
GL: Can you explain the differences between training in Detroit and training in Russia?
AZ: "It's a significant difference in training, there's a real science to what I've been learning here in Detroit. I feel that boxing back in Russia more oriented on emphasizing the amateurs and technical boxing, but structurally I feel like I've become a better fighter training here and I've digested the knowledge and I'm comfortable here so I'm ready for a big fight."
GL: Is there a specific fight out there that you feel would be a fantastic opportunity for you to take your career to the next level?
AZ: "I don't really have any names other than Bejenaru, but anybody who is a rated contender that is above me I look at as a possibility to help me get to that level."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
AZ: "Next time boxing fans will see me on the national stage and I will be a much better fighter, a changed fighter from I showed last time. I plan to fight for the world title in the very near future."
