GL: Congrats on your victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? It was a great performance and a good step up. I feel like for the path they've put me on, I've exceeded their expectations. I think I did better than everybody thought I would with me stepping in the ring with a guy that had 14 wins and 10 by knockout. He was a good step up guy, but I got him out of there very early because you know I don't get paid for overtime.
GL: After 90 seconds of work, you're certainly still fresh. When are you hoping to go next?
JaRico O'Quinn: "We're about to get a good week's rest and then get right back at it, I'd like to get another step up and get right back at it, I'm looking to get on TV in my next couple of fights. Right now we're all gas and no brakes and I'm not letting up."
GL: What was it like to fight on the first boxing show at the MGM Grand in Detroit?
JO: "It was great man, a lot of people came out and showed a lot of love. History was made and I got to look good, I'm happy to have been a part of it."
GL: What did you think of the other bantamweight action on the show?
JO: "James and Joshua Greer, I feel like it was a good fight. I feel like I could beat that Joshua Greer guy again because I fought him in the amateurs and I beat him. I know that mean nothing because he's gotten better since then, but I've gotten better too. The way I beat him last time, I'll beat him even worse this time. With the other fight the Russian guy (Potapov) and Antonio Nieves was a good fight. I feel like the Russian kid was sharper, but Nieves was scoring good. The Russian kid was starting to come back but I don't know if he did enough to win. That wasn't my fight though, so when it comes time for me to get on that stage I'm not going to leave it in the judges hands. I'll make it clear that I won if it goes to the decision."
GL: Are you trying to get to 10-0 before the end of the year?
JO: "Right now I'm 6-0 so 10-0, 11-0 is a possibility. That depends on what my manager and promoter want to do with me. Right now I"m young, I'm about to be 22 next month and I have a long career ahead of me. I'm going to fight everybody at the right time when it's time for everybody to get it."
GL: This was your second six round fight, you don't get paid by the round but would you like to get a full six under your belt before you step it up to the eight rounders?
JO: "Yes, I'd like that, but it might take them a while to find an opponent that's going to be able to go the full distance with me."
GL: Do you want to keep stepping up the level of opposition in your next fight?
JO: "I'm ready to fight everybody my team wants to put in front of me. For me this last fight went just like I thought it would, I know it was a step up in other people's eyes, but for me it was just another fight that wasn't no match for me either."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
JO: "I definitely want tougher opponents so I can continue to test myself. Keep fighting for me, I'm fighting for you, I've got big things coming in the future and this is only the beginning."
