LEMIEUX KNOCKS STEVENS OUT COLD IN THREE
By Ivan Montiel
At the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux scored one of the biggest wins of his career, a stunningly violent third-round knockout of New York’s Curtis Stevens. Lemieux and Stevens both came out swinging hard with power shots, and initially the Canadian Lemieux got the better of the exchanges. By the end of the second round and into the third, Lemieux began to look somewhat winded, which made it seem like Stevens had an opening to take over the fight. Then suddenly out of nowhere, Lemieux caught Stevens with a straight right immediately followed by an explosive left hook that ended the fight and left Stevens unconscious for some time. It could be the best knockout of the young year. Lemieux (37-3) won by KO at 1:59 of the third round. Stevens (29-6) was immediately taken to the hospital, and Boxingtalk wishes him a full and speedy recovery.
