MIKE MARRONE, 2 OLYMPIANS TO FEATURE ON ORLANDO SHOW
Press Release: World Wide Elite Entertainment is putting together the September 20th undercard for Orlando, Florida that will support the return of cruiserweight contender Francisco Palacios against TBA. Mike Marrone (20-4) of Vero Beach, FL will box for the first time since 2011 when he battles fellow Floridian Sam “Slam Bam” Tillman (13-10) of Bradenton in a six-round heavyweight contest. Marrone fought Guillermo Jones for the WBA cruiserweight belt in 2011, but was stopped in the sixth round. Tillman’s last bout goes all the way back to 2006, but he upset Moises Droz via third round knockout. Tickets are on sale at 561-702-7068.
Palacios is fighting in the eight-round main event while also serving as a co-promoter of the Saturday, September 20th card.
Also on the show, 2008 Olympian Carlos Negron (15-1) looks for his third straight knockout victory against an opponent to be announced in a six-round heavyweight scrap. Negron is from Puerto Rico.
With only one pro fight under his belt, 2008 Cuban Olympian Idel Torriente steps up to a six-round middleweight bout when he faces Joel Vargas (4-14-2) of Kansas. The Miami-based Torriente (1-0) has amateur wins against current WBA titlist Nicholas Walters, as well as Javier Fortuna and Abner Cotto amongst others. The iron-chinned Vargas forced Michael Finney, Emmanuel De Jesus, Enver Halili, Mark Salser and Dillon Cook to go the distance.
Local favorites James “Buddy” McGirt Jr, Christian Camacho, Jelame Garcia, Joshua Pagan and Lorenzo Ramos will also appear in separate four- or six-round matches.
“I’m very pleased with the undercard,” Palacios said. “Fans will not only get to see my comeback, but the return of Olympians, title contenders and undefeated prospects. The community has shown great interest in the card and we want to provide them with their money’s worth.”
