THE BOXINGTALK SCOREBOARD: TROUT LEAVES SOME DOUBT
By Scott Shaffer
Austin Trout W10 Daniel Dawson... After back-to-back losses, former world junior middleweight champion Austin Trout badly needed a win as he dropped down to ESPN-level. Trout got the win he needed against Daniel Dawson, but left critics an opening to question his chin. Dawson landed very few punches, but two of them, both in the third round, knocked Trout down. Dawson didn't follow up very aggressively and lost every other round. Things really got bad for Dawson in the seventh, when Trout stepped on Dawson's foot and appeared to injure his calk. With little mobility, Dawson had no chance, and got dropped by Trout in the eighth round. Dawson did his best to survive, but the fight was easy to score. All three judges scored it 97-90 for Trout.
Erick Bone W10 Mahonri Montes... Also in Temecula, California, slick boxing Ecuadorean Erick Bone overcame a bloody nose to easily outbox the stationary Mahonri Montes. Bones, who now fights out of New York and is aligned with Al Haymon, got the deserved decision by scores of 100-90 and 97-93 (twice). Bone improves to 15-1 while Montes, a Mexican who turned pro at age 16, falls to 29-4-1. source: for both results espn2 friday night fights
