Santa Cruz becomes two-division titlist
Jhonny Gonzalez KO1 Abner Mares: In an absolute shocker, Jhonny Gonzalez reclaimed the WBC featherweight championship with a first round knockout over the previously undefeated Abner Mares. After several heated exchanges, Gonzalez dropped Mares with a perfect counter left hook counter. Mares beat the count and was afforded :18 seconds to recover before the action resumed. The extra breather made little difference as Gonzalez ended the matter with a flurry of power shots concluding with a left hook, right hand that sent Mares down for the second time forcing the referee to stop the fight. Leo Santa Cruz TKO3 Victor Terrazas: Leo Santa Cruz became a two-division titlist claimed the WBC 122-pound title by cutting through the formidable Victor Terrazas over three one-sided rounds. A former IBF 118-pound titlist, Santa Cruz's sheer volume power punching were the difference from the outset. The end came at 2:09 of round three.
