SKOGLUND TO FACE DI GIACOMO NEXT MONTH
Press Release: Italian Lorenzo Di Giacomo will be the next obstacle for Erik Skoglund. The 34-year-old (41-7-1, 19 KOs) has gone the distance with Sebastian Sylvester, Eduard Gutknecht and Amin Asikainen. He will try to hand Skoglund (16-0, 9 KOs) the first loss of his career when they collide at Aarhus’ NRGi Arena on June 15th.
In the main event, middleweight Patrick Nielsen (18-0) faces Argentinian Crispulo Andino (16-5-1).
“Di Giacomo is a good fighter, he has been in the game for a long time and he knows all the tricks,” Skoglund said. “He has a lot of experience and not lost many fights but I know I will beat him.”
The last couple of weeks have been exciting for Skoglund. In May, he then helped Danish legend Mikkel Kessler to prepare for his blockbuster showdown with Carl Froch, travelling to Copenhagen for sparring. WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly and top-ranked super-middleweight contender George Groves were also around. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Skoglund said. “To be in a sparring camp with such highly decorated fighters was very special. I sparred with Mikkel and with Groves, it was very good and has given me a lot confidence.”
Skoglund will be one of three Swedes in action in Aarhus. Heavyweight Otto Wallin will make his professional debut, with Olympian Anthony Yigit set to make his fourth fight.
