YORGEY ESCAPES KENNEDY AT VALLEY FORGE CASINO
Matt Goldstein @ ringside
Harry Joe Yorgey W6 Julius Kennedy...
At King of Prussia, Pennsylvania's Valley Forge Casino, Harry Yorgey barely escaped with a split decision win over club fighter Julius Kennedy. Yorgey and Kennedy had a few exchanges but Kennedy seemed to land the bigger and better shots. Yorgey was backing up on the ropes and seemed to be struggling with Kennedy’s onslaught. Kennedy controlled the entire fight except for a few exchanges. Somehow, Yorgey came out on top of the scorecards and we’ll most likely have a rematch come June. Yorgey, a former world title challenger and HBO and Showtime alum, needs to put on a better performance if he wants to see the big stage again.
Naim Nelson W8 Georgi Kevlishvili... On the same show, Pennsylvania lightweight champion Naim
Nelson boxed throughout the first round keeping
at bay. Nelson used offense in spurts and backed up tactically. Nelson and Kevlishvili had a nice exchange in round two and Kalishvili refused to back up. Nelson controlled the fight but Kevlishvili was no slouch. Round six was a slugfest with Nelson and Kevlishvii going toe-to-toe, with Neslon always maintaining the advantage. Neslon focused on the body attack in round seven and ran away with all three scorecards.
