Spilka scores best knockout of 2013 so far, but only Internet viewers saw it

Earlier this week, Boxingtalk questioned how ESPN2 could pass on an Artur Szpilka-Mike Mollo heavyweight fight in favor of making Antwone Smith-Jose Luis Castillo the Friday Night Fights co-feature. Well, ESPN paid the price, getting stuck with a lackluster distance fight instead of a thrilling bloodbath that saw Mike Mollo getting booed in his hometown, scoring two knockdowns, fighting through two atrocious cuts to force the action, but ultimately getting knocked flat on his back for a ten count by Poland's Artur Szpilka. The Polish-American crowd in Chicago went nuts when Szpilka, now 13-0, landed a combination that the blood-covered Mollo never saw. Despite Szpilka recovering from two knockdowns, the story of the night was the courage shown by Mollo, who took the fight on short notice and pressed the action even after a headbutt and an elbow turned his face into a red mask. source: espn3
