Brian Vera TKO10 Segei Dzinziruk... In Verona, New York's Turning Stone Casino, Brian Vera confirmed his reputation as one of boxing's premier spoilers. With his wide punches and lack of subtlety, Vera will never be considered a scientific boxer, but the middleweight has nonetheless previously upset Andy Lee and Sergio Mora when they were looking past him towards bigger fights. Vera (22-6) repeated the feat on Friday by stopping ex WBO 154-pound titlist Sergiy "Razor" Dzinziruk in the tenth round. Vera's wide hooks repeatedly caught the straight-up Dzinziruk and floored the Russian in the first round. Vera looked like he was about to finish Dzinziruk off in a thrilling sixth round, but Dzinziruk answered back with a punch that opened up a cut over Vera's eye. Both men finished the round in a bloody state. Dzinziruk won a few rounds over the course of the fight, but Vera's punches were causing far more damage. Vera finally ended the bout in the tenth, simply overwhelming Dzinziruk in the corner until he went down. The referee called the bout over without any protest from a soundly beaten Dzinziruk. With consecutive wins over two former titlists (Dzinziruk and Mora), Vera has to be considered a legitimate contender, even though his style makes him appear mediocre. Dzinziruk was once 37-0, but at 37-2-1 and his poor defense exposed, his career has taken a serious downturn. source: espn2
