JONATHAN BANKS ENDS THE SETH MITCHELL HYPE
By Scott Shaffer

Jonathon Banks KO2 Seth Mitchell... With the spirit of Emanuel Steward in his corner, heavyweight Jonathan Banks burst the hype bubble surrounding ex-footballer Seth Mitchell, knocking Mitchell down three times in the second round to pull off an upset in Atlantic City. The win capped a tumultuous and emotional week for Banks (29-1-1), who worked the corner in Klitschko's in win over Mariusz Wach in Germany, flew to Detroit for the funeral of Steward and his long-time trainer, and then to Atlantic City where he entered the ring a decided underdog. In the wake of this win, Banks can now stake a claim to being the best American heavyweight. Mitchell won the first round, but Banks scored a knockdown pretty early on in the second. When Mitchell (25-1-1) was hurt, his instinct to hold on was correct, but his technique was not, and his efforts did not prevent Banks from landing more hard punches. Banks, for his part, finished Mitchell off perfectly with two additional knock downs, even though Banks has never been known as an aggressive puncher. Banks' win sets up an intriguing story line, namely whether Banks will get a championship shot at Klitschko, the man he just trained and has worked closely with for years. As for Mitchell, he accepted his first loss with grace and class, and will no doubt get another opportunity on a big heavyweight stage. source: hbo
