NEW TITLIST ALERT: PUNGLUANG SOR SINGYU WINS WBO BANTAM BELT
Pungluang Sor Singyu TKO9 AJ Banal ... Thailand's Pungluang Sor Singyu (43-1) claimed the vacant WBO bantamweight title by stopping AJ Banal (28-2-1) in the ninth round in the Philippines. The title was bizarrely vacated by Jorge Arce last year even though Arce had no big fight in the offing and hasn't fought for a wortld title since then. The Thai walked through the shots of Banal, showing, according to his promoter, a granite chin, Singyu rocked Banal with power combinations of hooks, haymakers and uppercuts. In the ninth round, Banal was almost thrown out of the ropes but referee Tony Weeks ruled it as a slip. Sensing weakness, Singyu hit Banal with wild combinations to the head and body. Banal fought back but got the greater damage, and fell to the canvas. Banal stood up within the count but walked groggily toward the neutral corner. Sensing enough punishment, Weeks called a halt to the bout at 1:45 of the ninth round.
UNDERCARD... On the undercard, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista defeated Mexico's Daniel Ruiz by split decision... Jason Pagara knocked out Miguel Antoine in the first round... Michael Domingo was also victorious with a third-round knockout of Mudde Ntambe Rabison of Uganda. source: one songchai promotions
