FORMER WWE CHAMP BAUTISTA ESCAPES WITH WIN IN MMA DEBUT

Dave Bautista TKO1 Vincent Lucero In the main event of Jimmy Burchfield's CES MMA event in Providence, RI, former six time WWE champion Dave Bautista overcame a rocky start to TKO Vincent Lucero at 4:05 of the first round. Bautista, who looked as though he didn't know how to defend himself, got caught with a straight right hand just after the opening bell. Lucero backed Bautista up and fired a looping overhand right that wobbled Bautista. The next minute of the fight saw Bautista and Lucero grapple on their feet before the referee separated the two fighters after a significant lull in the action. Bautista was able to take Lucero down to the mat and eventually gained full mount position. As his opponent lay face down on the mat, Bautista landed several illegal blows to the back of Lucero's head. Unfortunately for Lucero, the referee did not penalize Bautista and stopped the fight for excessive unanswered blows. As the crowd booed, Lucero  protested but to no avail. While still in the cage, Bautista was asked about his future. "My nerves got the best of me tonight but I want to fight again," said Bautista. David Bautista was able to accomplish his goal of winning a professional MMA fight tonight, but he probably should stick to wrestling and acting before he gets seriously hurt. Lucero, who was game, dropped to 20-23,11 ko's...
