POVETKIN STOPS WOEFUL RAHMAN IN TWO
By Scott Shaffer

Alexander Povetkin TKO2 Hasim Rahman... Alexander Povetkin teed off on a hopeless Hasim Rahman for two rounds in Hamburg, Germany until the referee saved Rahman from a sustained beating. Rahman never went down, but fought with his back against the ropes because his legs were too shaky to support him. Rahman's trainer, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, did not make the trip over to Germany for the fight because Muhammad was unwilling or unable to get a passport. Rahman, a former champion, should take his check and retire, and that is a kind assessment of his performance. He was a great warrior in his day but that day passed a long time ago. The WBA, who had Rahman rated #1, deserves no such kindness, and it should be pointed put that Povetkin and his promoter Sauerland Event had to do this fight in order for Povetkin to retain the WBA regular heavyweight champion.  In 2013, Povetkin (25-0) will be entitled to a mandatory challenge of WBA super champion Wladimir Klitschko. Povetkin twice seemed close to fighting Klitschko in the past, but they fights never materialized. source: epix/sauerland
