NYC CASINO TO HOST BOXING ON SEPT. 22
Press Release: On Saturday, September 22nd, New Legend Boxing / Old World Boxing and W.O.N. Boxing Promotions will promote the first boxing show in Jamaica, Queens' Resorts World Casino, New York City's first legal casino. Light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr. will take on Yasin Rashid in the eight-round main event. Smith, a twenty two year-old Long Islander has a record of 10-1 with all ten wins by knockout. After suffering his lone blemish [a stoppage loss to Eddie Caminero], Smith has come back by stopping his last four opponents, including James Denson, 5-9, in under two minutes on May 17th.
Rashid, a thirty six year-old Brooklynite, has a record of 7-2 with 2 KOs. He's been a pro for eight years [and lost his last two, althoug both were decision losses to undefeated boxers]. Rashid's first seven wins included undefeated Kevin Cruz and Frank Mondejar (16-3). Rashid has really stepped it up in his last two bouts but came up a bit short in fights with Will Rosinsky (12-0) and Andy Mejias (9-0).
Also set for the show is bantamweight Elton Dharry (9-5-1, 4 KOs), of Queens, NY, who will take on Gabriel Cruz (4-4-1, 1 KO) of Oceanside, CA in a six-round bout.

In the eight round co-feature, super bantamweight Juan Dominguez will see action against an opponent to be named. Dominguez of Brooklyn via the Dominican Republic sports a record of 10-0 with 7 KOs. Appearing in six round bouts against opponents to be determined will be junior middleweight Frank Galarza (7-0, 4 KOs) of Brooklyn, junior middleweight Boyd Melson (9-1, 4 KOs) of White Plains, NY, and super featherweight Rafael Vazquez (8-0, 6 KOs) out of Brooklyn.
Seeing action in four round bouts against opponents to be named will be featherweight Angel Garcia (2-1, 2 KOs) of Brooklyn, featherweight Alan Phelan (0-1) of Queens, New York via Ireland and Vinny Celentano (3-0, 1 KO) of Howard Beach, NY.
The card will also include a four round pro debut of welterweight Daniel Gonzalez of Queens, NY battling Anthony Smith of Brooklyn.
