RIGONDEAUX FLOORS KENNEDY FIVE TIMES
By Scott Shaffer
Guillermo Rigondeaux TKO5 Teon Kennedy... In the pay-per-view opener from Las Vegas, Cuba's Guillermo Rigondeaux knocked down Teon Kennedy five times in five rounds to retain his WBA 122-pound championship by technical knockout. Kennedy got the the title despite, or perhaps because, he had a loss and a draw in his last two fights. Rigondeaux knocked Kennedy down once in the first, twice in the second, once in the fourth and again in the fifth. Kennedy never seemed to hurt, but after the fifth knockdown, referee Russell Mora stopped the contest without a ten count. Kennedy (19-2-2) had only been knocked down once in his entire career prior to tonight. Rigondeaux's dominance was reflected in Punchstat numbers, which gave him a 58-13 edge in punches landed. The former two-time Olympic gold medalist is now 10-0 as a pro. source: hbo ppv
