FREITAS COMES OUT OF RETIREMENT TO EMBARRASS CLASSLESS OLIVEIRA

Edited Press Release: Acelino “Popo” Freitas came out of a lenghty retirement and moved up three weight classes and embarrassed Michael Oliveira with a ninth-round knockout on June 2nd in Uruguay. The fight was billed as a battle between past and future Brazilian boxing legends, but the hype wsas only half right. Freitas' former promoter, Artie Pelullo said, “Even after all the successes that he’s had – Acelino is now a congressman in Brazil, as well as being one of their most popular athletes ever – and at 36 years of age, he showed that he can still take care of business in the ring. It was like he never left. It was his first fight in five years, but he looked strong and sharp against [Oliveira], who was just 22 years old and who was trying to make a name for himself in Brazil and around the world by beating Popo. He got an education on June 2nd. It was a tremendous performance for Popo." Oliveira showed no class prior to the fight, issuing press releases that he intended to hurt the beloved two-division champion, and that Freitas was "just another opponent." We doubt Oliveiar still feels that way.
