ERIK MORALES TO PROMOTE SHOW IN BAJA CALIFORNIA ON MAY 19TH
Press Release: Erik Morales' promotional outfit Box Latino is gearing up to go outside of Baja California on Saturday, May 19th, in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico where hometown favorite super bantamweight Oscar "Fantasma" Gonzalez (27-1, 24 KOs) faces Giovanni Caro (23-10-4, 18 KOs) of Mexico City in a twelve-round bout. Televisa, as part of their weekly "Sabados de Corona" boxing series, will broadcast the contest live in Mexico. Also featured on the card will be junior flyweight Pedro Guevara (17-0-1, 13 KOs) versus La Paz Raul Castañeda (14-2, 8 KOs) in a twelve-round al-Mexican tilt. Appearing against an oponent to be determined will be super featherweight Omar Estrella (15-4-2, 10 KOs), who in his last bout lost to ex-junior featherweight titlist Daniel Ponce de Leon.
Gonzalez has not fought in his hometown of Tepic since defeating Hugo Morales near the end of ’09, stated that his match up versus Caro is an opportunity for him to reach a new stage in his career. “I am happy that the fight will be in Tepic. I feel even more motivated and I know that the fans will be satisfied because it is a good fight. A fight that is going to open up doors for my career. I feel good, I feel prepared. I am ready for anything and ready to face him.” Concentrated in Tijuana since April and working out at the Jose “Olivaritos” Morales Gym located in the Zona Norte of the border city, Gonzalez mentioned that he knows what he needs to be careful of against his next opponent.
“I have to look out for his power,” González clearly said. “They say that he can hit hard and I have to be careful of his right hand, which is the only thing I have to look out for.”
