SHUMENOV REBOUNDS FROM KNOCKDOWN TO RETAIN WBA BELT
By Scott Shaffer

Beibut Shumenov W12 Viacheslav Uzelkov... Beibut Shumenov kept his WBA light heavyweight title with a career-best win, a 12-round unanimous decision over Viacheslav Uzelkov in Leemore, California. Shumenov, from Kazakhstan, came in as one of the most lighthly regarded titlists in boxing, having claimed the WBA 175-pound title in his last fight via controversial decision over Gabriel Campillo.  Against Uzelkov (22-1), he got off to a rocky start, getting knocked down in the first round. However, Shumenov (10-1) responded well to the adversity, winning virtually every remaining round in the  outdoor fight, including the third, in which he decked Uzelkov. Official scores were 118-108 (twice) and 117-109. source: espn friday night fights
