EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: FERNANDO GUERRERO
By G. Leon

GL: Congrats on a great victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "I thought it was a big win. I give all credit to my corner. I trained hard and followed their instructions and they were the best instructions because the result came out well."

GL: You had great amatuer history with Nicklow, was there anything different about him as a pro?

Fernando Guerrero: "He got better just like I got better. He came to win, he didn't come to fight. Even when I dropped him he got back up and kept fighting. His nickname is the beast and it wasn't just given to him. He earned that name. I think he earned that name in the ring today."

GL: When the fight was stopped both of you seemed to be punched out. Obviously he was the worse for wear because you almost knocked him out, but were you in fact almost punched out?

FG: "Not really. I train hard and I was throwing some heavy blows. In some of my recent fights I've shown that I can go on like that all day."

GL: I understand you're next fight is supposed to take place on ESPN February 19. What can you tell us about that?

FG: "I really don't know nothing about that. I recently heard about it, but I don't disrespect my opponents, I was focused on the guy in front of me tonight. Whoever is next, I will be ready. Thank you for telling me though."

GL: What are your goals for 2010?

FG: "To get close to or fight for a world title."

GL: How do you feel about the middleweight division as it stands?

FG: "I think it's vacant right now. It's open for the taking. You have a lot of middleweight prospects and they have to watch out for alll of us."

GL: Is there anybody that you want to fight particularly in 2010?

FG: "I'm not the type to call anybody out. I think I'm doing good with who they put in front of me, and talking or calling guys out is not my style."

GL: Closing thoughts?

FG: "Thanks for watching. For the fans, be a fan no matter what. Appreciate the fighter and appreciate the athlete. When a fighter loses he needs his fans the most because you all make us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody."
