Omar Juarez  KO6 Kevin Shacks... Omar Juarez, 141 lbs., of Brownsville, TX, twice floored Kevin Shacks, 142.5 lbs., of Haslett, MI, in the opening round then outboxed him for the remainder of the six-round contest focusing on his counter-attack. Juarez dished out plenty of punishment to the body in his opening salvo, bringing down his adversary’s guard to deck him with left hooks upstairs each time. The fight ended abruptly when a Juarez jab-straight right combination to the heart dropped Shacks to his knees for a full count in round six. The knockout came at the 1:59 mark of the stanza. Juarez is now 6-0 (4 KOs), while Shacks’ record hit 3-5-3 (3 KOs).

Vito Mielnicki Jr. TKO2 Marklin BaileyThe 17-year-old Vito Mielnicki Jr., of Roseland, NJ, who is a 5-foot-11 welterweight and son of promoter Vito Sr., stopped the cagey Marklin Bailey, 143.5 lbs., of Durham, NC, who had previously gone the distance with a few unbeaten prospects. In round two, while pinned against the ropes, Mielnicki landed a short right hook to the temple that hurt Bailey. Following a clinch and break, Mielnicki jumped on a still-dazed Bailey to stagger him with a flush left hook-straight right combination. Referee Russell Mora then intervened to end the bout via TKO at the 2:31 mark. Mielnicki, who turned pro in July, is now 3-0 (3 KOs). As an amateur, Mielnicki amassed a 147-22 amateur record and was a four-time Junior National Golden Gloves champion. Bailey’s record hit the .500 mark and is now 6-6 (4 KOs).

Deontay Wilder’s younger brother, Marsellos Wilder, 197 lbs., of Tuscaloosa, AL, suffered his second loss by knockout when Dustin Long, 198.5 lbs., of Johnson City, TN, decked him with a sudden jab-left hook combination to the chin in round four. With Wilder flat on his back, referee Jay Nady immediately ended the contest without a count. The knockout came at the 1:51 mark of the frame. Up until then, Wilder had been in control of a slow-paced bout. He began to open up, throwing combinations with conviction in the third, but Long easily absorbed the punishment. Long picked up his third win by knockout and is now 3-1-2 (3 KOs). Wilder’s resume stands at 5-2-2-1NC (2 KOs).

In a battle of southpaws, Ukrainian Viktor Slavinskyi, 127.5 lbs., of Los Angeles, CA, took on Mexican Rigoberto Hermosillo, 127 lbs., now based out of California. Slavinskiy used angles to work his way inside his four-inch taller foe’s reach to land accurate powershot counters. Hermosillo did his best to keep the fight at long range with stiff jabs. A cut opened above Slavininsky’s right eye near the end of round five. Both fighters came out for the sixth and final frame with a sense of urgency, creating exciting exchanges on the inside. The scorecards read 58-56, 59-55 and 60-54, all for Slavinskyi, now 11-0-1 (6 KOs), via unanimous decision. Hermosillo suffered his second straight defeat and is now 11-2-1 (8 KOs).

The 19-year-old Angel Alejandro, 130.5 lbs., of Dallas, TX, outboxed Filipino Mark John Yap, 132 lbs., of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis, Oriental, and often landed clean, powerful countershots upstairs. Yap had success in the fourth and fifth once he closed the gap, landing his overhand right and hooks to the body. Alejandro punctuated round five with a huge left hook that bloodied his opponent’s nose. The Dallas resident closed the bout strong, boxing on his toes and digging to the midsection. After six rounds, Alejandro improved to 8-0 (4 KOs) via unanimous decision on tallies of 58-56 twice, and 59-55. Yap’s record is now 30-15 (15 KOs).

Filipino Jhon “The Disaster” Germino, 129.5 lbs., of Lipa City, Batangas, scored an upset knockout victory against 23-year-old southpaw Arnold Alejandro, 129.5 lbs., of Dallas, TX. Germino scored an early knockdown in round one when Alejandro left himself open for a counter then dominated the second with his pressure. Alejandro seemed take control by the third as he was now pressing forward and throwing fast combinations. In round five, Germino feinted with his left then landed a monster right hook to Alejandro’s chin, dropping him in a heap. The referee deemed no count necessary to halt the contest at the 1:45 mark. Coming in with 10 straight knockouts following his June 2016 pro debut, Alejandro left the ring at 11-1 (10 KOs), while the more experienced Filipino improved to 21-12-1 (11 KOs).

Jose Manuel Gomez, 130 lbs., of Huntington Park, CA, dropped Daniel Placeres, 129.5 lbs., of Miami, FL, in each of the first three rounds en route to a TKO victory at the end of the third stanza. Placeres’ corner mercifully pulled the plug on their charge, electing not to continue. Gomez is now 12-0 (5 KOs), while Placeres dipped to 8-3-1 (7 KOs).
