WBO sets Aug. 11th date for Navarrete-Magdaleno purse bid

The WBO is moving forward with plans to fill its vacant featherweight championship by matching Emanuel Navarrete vs. Jessie Magdaleno. The repsective promoters (Top Rank for Magdaleno, Zanfer for Navarrete) were instructed by the WBO that if a deal for the fight is not reached, a purse bid will be held on August 11th. Due to coronavirus, the envelopes will be opened via Zoom, not in person. The WBO featherweight title was recently vacated by Shakur Stevenson. Navarrete (31-1) held the WBO super bantamweight title from 2018 to 2020, but like Stevenson, he vacated in the post-coronavirus era in order to move up in weight. Magdaleno (28-1) was one of Navarrete's predecessors as WBO 122-pound champion. Magdaleno defeated Nonito Donaire for the title in 2016 and turned it over to Isaac Dogboe in 2018. Navarrete then beat Dogboe. source: wbo
