WBC keeping tight control over bridgerweight title

The WBC is keeping tight control over its newly created bridgerweight (224-pound) championship. Promoter Rodney Berman posted a message from WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman that laid out the future of the division as follows: The WBC inaugural championship fight will be between Oscar Rivas and Bryant Jennings. The match-up is strange with Jennings being a poor choice having not won a fight since 2018. Rivas-Jennings is scheduled for June 18th, and within ninety days after that, the winner must immediately face South Africa's Kevin Lerena as mandatory contender. Then the winner of fight #2 must do a second mandatory which will come from an all-Russian fight between Dmitry Kudryashov and Evgeny Romanov.
