Turarov feeling pressure to produce in Kazakhstan

Zhankosh Turarov (23-0, 16 KOs) is proud to be topping the bill on a night of boxing history at Nur-Sultan’s Barys Arena in Kazakhstan on July 6th, live on ESPN+. The show, which will also be broadcast on QAZ Sports in Kazakhstan and on iFL TV, sees Turarov pit his talent against Argentina’s Mauro Godoy (31-4-1, 16 KOs) in a ten-round, 140-pound encounter. On a night that also includes a maiden defense for WBC bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali against Arthur Villanueva, Turarov is ready to meet the high expectations.

Turarov said: “For me, this is a heavy responsibility because I’m headlining and it’ll be the first time I’ve boxed in Kazakhstan for a long time. Fighting in my homeland is a great joy for me and I’ll truly give it my best. It’s a real honour for me to be performing in country, where I hope to become one of the most successful fighters. Of course there is pressure but without pressure, success is impossible and I believe it will be a beautiful night of boxing. I will do everything in my power to be sure of it. I am having the best training and although I am already very well supported, I aim to please the whole country in this bout and win over even more fans.”

As well as Turarov vs. Godoy and Oubaali vs. Villanueva, Ireland’s featherweight Davey Oliver Joyce (10-0, 8 KOs) takes to the stage against Venezuela's Breilor Teran (27-17-1, 20 KOs) alongside a host of other Kazakh talents, including lightweight Viktor Kotochigov. Sultan Zaurbek, Ali Baloyev, Abilkhaiyr Shegaliyev, Nurtas Azhbenov and Abay Tolesh will all look to make impacts on a busy undercard.
