The Boxingtalk Scoreboard: ex-champ Linares beats hand-picked opponent

Jorge Linares W10 Al Toyogon ...In Japan over the weekend, former three-division title holder Jorge Linares of Venezuela beat Filipino native Al Toyogon via unanimous decision over ten rounds. There were no knockdowns in the fight, and official scores were 99-90, 100-90 and 100-89. Toyogan, from the Philippines, lost his third straight fight and drops to 10-5-1 for his career, not a fitting opponent for a boxer of Linares' stature. Linares, who lost his lightweight title to Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2018 and then was stoped in a junior welterweight contest by gatekeeper Pablo Ceasr Cano in January, badly needed a win to keep his career at the world-class level. There was one moment of concern for Linares, which came in the fourth round when he was hit with a left hook. source: wba
