The Boxingtalk Scoreboard: Dickens wins in Liverpool

Jazza Dickens W10 Nathaniel May ... Hometown hero Jazza Dickens rewarded his loyal supporters with a victory, defeating Nathaniel May in a featherweight contest at the Liverpool Olympia in Liverpool, England. Dickens (27-3, 11 KOs) topped May (21-2, 12 KOs) in an entertaining back-and-forth battle that Dickens won by unanimous decision. The judges scored it 97-92, 97-91 and 96-92. Dickens said afterwards, “Nathaniel May is a really good fighter so I’m pleased with the win. Thanks to Nathaniel for coming over and putting everything on the line to fight me. It was an absolutely amazing atmosphere so I need to thank the people of Liverpool for coming out. I’m really pleased to get the win and this belt, and now I want to kick on from here.”

May said, “I’m disappointed with my performance but setbacks happen. Now it’s time to get back in the gym and recuperate. Jazza Dickens is a great fighter. I think I had too much time out of the ring. The more active the best you’ll see of me. I’m sorry to my fans for not picking up the win, but thank you for all of the support.”
Ex-Olympic star Tasha Jonas (8-1, 6 KOs) earned a fourth round stoppage win against Bec Connolly, while there were also wins for the likes of Sam Maxwell, Ged Carroll, John Quigley and Craig Glover.

Natasha Jonas TKO4 Bec Connolly... 2012 Olympian Natasha Jonas improved to 8-1 by stopping Bec Connolly (2-6) in the fourth round of a lightweight bout. Jonas said, “It was a good performance. I was trying to showcase the skills that I show in the gym and put them into the ring instead, and I hope that I did that. For my first few fights I was relying a bit on my power and loading up, but now I’m showing my boxing skills too. I was happy with the win and now I’d love to get a world title shot either at the end of the year or early next year.”

Welterweight Sam Maxwell stopped Oscar Amador in two and said afterwards, “My boxing went well and I used my jab really well. That was my first fight since my last fight when I got dropped, so it was good to get that out of system and get a dominant win. This is my first time fighting in the Liverpool Olympia and it was an amazing venue. These shows are unbelievable and I hope I get on many more of these. I’m ready for a big fight in my next fight.”

Ged Carroll topped Jordan Ellison via decision over six rounds. The winner said, “I was pleased I got the win. Jordan Ellison is a tough customer and I got the victory and a big stage live on ESPN+ and on iFL TV. I know I can still box better than that and it’s about building momentum now. I think I’m better over longer distances, but we’ve got the win to move to 11-0 and it’s about progression. Down at lightweight I’m looking forward to kicking on and getting some big fights soon.”

John Quigley got a points win over Alexander Zeledon in six rounds. Quigley said afterwards, “It’s another step in the right direction. I fought a lot lighter in this fight than I did in my last one, so the idea is to stay active and be even lighter again in my next fight. I was really heavy before my comeback but I don’t want to crash the weight, so it’s about doing it gradually and sensibly and getting back to my natural weight where I can face some good names.”

Craig Glover triumphed over Jiri Svacina via six-round decision. Glover said, “It was good to get the six rounds. I’ve only had a handful of fights so it’s all good experience for me moving forward. If I don’t knock people out some people may think it’s a bad performance, but you can’t knock everyone out, especially over six rounds with these opponents who hold on, so I was happy with how it went.” source for all results: MTK Management
