One-on-One With Constantin Bejenaru

Greg Leon: How has everything been going for the biggest fight of your life, a shot at the WBA cruiserweight world title vs. Arsen Goulamirian? Constantin Bejenaru: "It was very good news for me to learn that I would have the opportunity to fight for a world title.  It’s the opportunity that I have been waiting for since turning pro, and I am of course preparing well for the fight.  Thank you so much to my promoter Dmitriy Salita and to the whole team for this deal."

GL: Have you done anything differently in preparation for this fight?

CB: "I take my preparations for every fight seriously, but every opponent is different so of course we made adjustments to get ready for Goulamirian."

GL: What are your thoughts of him as a fighter?

CB: "He is a good fighter.  He has a strong punch and is always in good physical condition.  And he is a world champion.  Not everyone can become world champion so that says a lot about him."

GL: At 35 years old are you viewing this as a do-or-die fight?

CB: "This is boxing.  It is important to take advantage of every good opportunity at every age. There are boxers who have become champion at 40 or even 50 years old.  I am 35 and feel very good, very fit, and I am looking forward to the fight."

GL: What would a win on December 28th mean to you?

CB: "A win will say that I have done my job in the right way.  My life as a boxer, and the challenges I have already met, have allowed me this opportunity to fight for a world title.  It is what every boxer works for and what I have worked for during my career."

GL: Other than victory do you have a prediction for this fight?

CB: "I don’t like to predict.  I’m not Nostradamus.  I like to do my job and afterwards we can talk about the fight."

GL: All of his fights have taken place in France, do you think you'll be able to get a decision there?

CB: "France is his country so he will of course have a lot of support there.  I just need to do my job and trust the judges to do their job."

GL: Closing thoughts for the fans.

CB: "The time has come.  I expect it will be a very good show on December 28 and hope you will be watching."
