Nikolai Potapov addresses majority decision loss

Potapov to protest "robbery" loss to Greer Jr

Greg Leon: Congrats on a great showing against Joshua Greer Jr. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance and tell us how you feel about the decision (a majority decision loss by scores of 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112)? Nikolai Potapov: I was in great shape and controlled the fight with my skills.  Greer is not a good boxer. He is not on my level.  The decision was terrible it was a blind robbery.  I am very disappointed that this happened live on big tv network in a big arena.  After the fight numerous boxing fans, Andre Ward , Tim Bradley and press came to me to express there disappointment in the fight. They all felt that I clearly won the fight.

GL: Are you and your team going to be protesting the decision?

NP: "Yes I believe in justice and hope it will prevail in this situation."

GL: I know it's not the result you wanted but you've definitely elevated your status in America with that performance.  Do you feel you've could have done anything more to eliminate any doubt over who won the fight? Was there something you wanted to do that you failed to do in there?

NP:" I controlled the fight and did what I wanted and planned.  The pillow he brought was for himself that’s what I told him at the weigh in.  After the fight in the ring he knew he didn’t deserve that decision! "

GL: Was there anything about Greer that surprised you?

NP: "NO! "

GL:  If it's not a rematch with Greer, when would you like to fight next?

NP: "I would like to fight again before the year is out !"

GL: Is it important to you to fight quickly following this performance in order to get some momentum behind you in the United States?

NP: "I love to fight the best as you can see by my record.  I trust my promoter and know that he will me the right opportunity."

GL: A lot of American fighters feel that they have to above and beyond to get a fair shake whenever they fight overseas. After last night's decision it sounds like Team Potapov believes the opposite is also true.

NP: "Boxing skills , points , technique should be recognized equally all over the world.  I was very surprised by this robbery considering the visibility and magnitude of the event."

GL: Closing thoughts.

NP: "I want to thank the boxing fans, press espn commentators and all those who speak the truth.  Thank you to Salita Promotions and also ESPN and Top Rank for the opportunity.  I will be back ready to fight and beat the best ! "
