Fernando Vargas: "De La Hoya's performance against Pacquiao was No Mas 2! That's how people will remember him!!"

BT:  Ricardo De Cubas said you are co-proting an event with him and his brother in February. What can you tell us about that? " On February 14th we have the St. Valentines Day Massacre at Buffalo Bill's in Primm, NV.  I am excited about it.  I have my promotional license so I will be another force in the promotional world to be reckoned with and I am very excited about that."

BT:  So do you have partnership with Ricardo and Luis De Cubas?

FV:  With World Collide Promotions, yes.  I definitely am going to be promoting fights and even concerts on my own as well.

BT:  What kind of concerts, English music or Spanish music or are you looking at both?

FV: Both.  Its called VEP.  Thats Vargas Entertainment Promotions.  Instead of VIP, its VEP baby.  We are better than VIP (laughing out loud)!

BT: This fight coming up on February 14th, I understand its half MMA and half boxing.  Is that right?

FV: Yes 5 MMA fights and 5 boxing fights. I am excited about it.  Its going to be a beautiful thing to bring this to the world and to step into the world of promotion.

BT:  So this is your first fight show?

FV:  Yes my first show.  It will be with the De Cubas brothers and Tom.  I very excited and very humble that the fans follow me where ever I go.  I was just in San Antonio, TX and people showed up and wanted autographs or want to get their picture taken with me.  I am grateful for that.

BT:  Speaking of that, do you miss boxing?

FV:  I do miss boxing but the thing is that I'm a big Mexican.  What I mean by big is that I work out and lift Monday through Friday.  I am walking around between 218-220 lbs.  So my abs still got some shape but my body won't let me fight anymore.  I try to drop weight but I feel weak. I have to stretch my meals and I am eating almost nothing.  Just water if I am hungry, just to get something in my stomach.  My wife says that if your body lets you get down to the weight you need then go ahead.  I would love to be fighting.  I love a good fight whether its inside the ring or outside it (laughing again). Sometimes I like to watch them outside but I don't get in them anymore (laughs).

BT:  Yeah I bet it would be tough to hit 154 from where your at.

FV:  Yeah 154, 160 and 175 whatever, its insane. I can't do it.  I got my abs and now I got a bigger chest from the lifting.  I'm in the gym Monday through Friday and on the weekend I am with my family and kick it and just have a good time, you know what I mean.  I have Z Pizza.  I have my first one in West Lake (Calkifornia) and its kicking butt.  Its a pizza franchise that was started in Newport Beach (California).  I have a franchise.  I also have my promotional thing going on.  I also got this acting thing on the side I am excited about.  I might do a movie with Jack Black that will be a remake of the A Team.  I did one with Sharon Stone, Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake called Alpha Dog.  I did one with Tom Berenger where they shoot me.  It's a mobster type movie called Stiletto.  I get in an altercation with him (Berenger) in a restaurant and I come back and shoot it up with my guys and then I am the last one they kill.  I am doing a lot of things.

BT:  I have to ask you this.  What did you think of the De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao fight?

FV:  Man, I felt bad for him.  You know what I mean.  The one thing you are supposed to never do in your life, I mean never, is quit. Think about it.  Never!  I remember after I fought Trinidad, I was in a club one time.  People were showing me love, asking for autographs and pictures even though I had my first loss when some guy came up to me and asked if he could ask me a question.  I said go ahead.  He said why did you keep getting up when you fought Trinidad?  I said are you serious?  You gotta get the fuck out of my face. I don't want to think the way you think.  Why not?  Why wouldn't I get back up?  You know what, think of this, what do you remember about Roberto Duran?

BT:  No mas.

FV:  Exactly.  See what I mean?  So now regardless he is going to be known as No Mas 2.  I felt bad for him you know what I mean?

BT:  Yeah after the first round it looked like he didn't have any chance to win in that fight.

FV: I think he must have been depleted by going down so low in weight.  Then I heard I think he was at 143, like he was trying to make a statement.  I don't know why he would go so light.  I don't understand why he would do that.  Then he goes that low and then you know he doesn't feel good.  When I fought Winky Wright, it was one of my title defenses and I had to lose 12 lbs in one week.  So I ate eat three times a day, three hardboiled egg whites. That's it.  I was so hungry when I closed my eyes it looked like when your tv goes out and its all static.  Thats what I was seeing.  That crazy screen when I would blink.  Then I weighed in.  I killed myself to make weight.  Then I went out and ate pizza and drank soda.  I didn't know nothing about nutrition.  I didn't know not to eat white flour.  I basically ate nothing but egg whites all week then I go out and pig out.  I kill myself going down in weight then I crash right after eating so much.  I was so tired.  It was like oh man.  I threw 100 punches in the first round.  I felt weak but I wanted to show he can't break me.  I saw my kids, my wife and my grandma rest in peace.  It was then said I said fuck this shit.  I am not going to take this.  This is my belt.  He ain't going to take it.   I put my life on the line for my kids.  I then threw 100 punches the next round and the next round and so on.  I beat him.  Then he complained that he was robbed.  Yeah right.  Guess what, you gotta beat the champ to take the belt.  You didn't do it. I mean I felt bad for him ( De La Hoya).  I just trip out on how someone could just quit like that.  I felt bad for him honestly.

BT:  That wasn't the outcome I expected.  I thought he would win.

FV:  Honestly I thought he would knock him (Pacquiao) out.  People before would say what do you think about the fight?  I would say what fight?  What do you mean?  Oscar is going to knock him out.  It was crazy.

BT:  Thanks for your time and good luck with promoting.

FV:  Check out fernandovargasonline.com.  Thanks my man.
