Greg Leon: How has everything gone in preparation for the get back this weekend at Madison Square Garden? Michael Conlan: “Preparation has went fantastic brother, I’m really excited for Saturday!” GL: After that decision in the Olympics, what would a victory over Vladimir Nikitin mean to you? MC: “It will mean a lot with all that had happened in Rio, but every fight is a must win so I’m just focused on winning no matter who it is.”
GL: Would you say this is the most you've ever wanted to destroy or totally outclass one of your opponents?
MC: “I would say so, it’s the first time I’ve faced an opponent that I have history with, so I want to put on a master class and leave no doubt.”
GL: How do you feel about fighting on the Terence Crawford card?
MC: “I’m delighted to fight on Terence’s card, he’s one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world so it’s an honor.”
GL: Do you think you were put on this show to help sell tickets?
MC: “Possibly, but also my fight is a fight people want to see and there’s really no better stage to have it.”
GL: Other than victory is the a prediction for Saturday night?
MC: “A master class.”
GL: When do you see yourself fighting for the world title?
MC: “Within 12 months.”
GL: Who do you like in the IBF lightweight fight, Richard Commey vs. Teofimo Lopez fight?
MC: “It’s a hard one to choose between, both great fighters with a lot to prove. I think Commey is being wrote off but it’s a 50-50 in my opinion.”
GL: I assume you're expecting Terence to take care of business in the main event, correct?
MC: “Yes, I think Terence is the best welterweight in the world right now.”
GL: How many times do you see yourself fighting next year?
MC: “3-4 I’d say.”
