Commey Back Home In Ghana with one eye on Lopez-Nakatani winner

Greg Leon: Congrats on your recent victory over former WBO lightweight champion Ray Beltran. It was a very entertaining fight. Can you give us some thoughts for your performance? Richard Commey: "I just want to thank God for the opportunity for the victory, I want to thank Lou DiBella and Top Rank for getting me a good match-up, I also want to thank my management and my corner, lead by Andre Rozier for the great work they've done with me. I know that Andre is a great coach with pro fighters so I worked so hard with him in the gym and I had some really good sparring going into that fight. Everyone who saw the fight, for me I was a little bit disappointed that he didn't make the weight, but yeah, he went in there and did what he had to do. He fought his heart out and we had a good fight. I feel like I made a couple of mistakes, I feel that I need to work to make sure I don't repeat that again. I got hit with a couple of punches I shouldn't have, but it was a good fight."

GL: He caught you with a couple of good punches, were you ever hurt?

RC: "To be honest with you, I wasn't hurt I just lost my balance. I wasn't really hurt at all, but I was in there with a bigger guy, but I was definitely ready mentally, physiscally and spiritually, so those punches didn't do much for me."

GL: What do you think about the Teofimo Lopez-Masayoshi Nakatani [IBF lightweight elimination] bout?

RC: "I don't like to get into predictions. May the best man win."

GL: Do you plan on attending the event?

RC: "No, because I'm in Ghana right now and I don't know how long I'm staying for, so probably not. I don't think so."

GL: (laughs) And how much will you be rooting for Lopez to win?

RC: "May the best man win, I don't like to do predictions. Whoever wins I will fight next, they are both good fighters."

GL: What do you mean? You've got to be rooting for Lopez to win because it's much more money for you than if Nakatani won right?

RC: "Yes this is true, but I want to fight the best and if he doesn't win the fight he's not the best. The money would be better, but money isn't everything. Whoever it is, I will be ready."

GL: If you wind up fighting Teofimo Lopez, do you think that's going to be a fight people overlook you in?

RC: "Most definitely. I always want people to see good fights and I will always give them good fights. The reporters can write what they want, I know they're going to be doing a lot of talking, but when it's time to get in the ring they're going to have to back it up."

GL: Closing thoughts for the fans.

RC: "I want to thank all of my fans, I love you guys. I want to shoutout all my fans all over the world, the new fans that started following me on twitter. Keep me in your prayers, I will always give you a good fight."
