Burnett kicks off 122-pound campaign with a TKO

Ryan Burnett TKO6 Jelbirt Gomera... In Belfast, Northern Ireland, former IBF/WBA bantamweight champion Ryan Burnett got his super bantamweight campaign off to a good start, stopping Jelbirt Gomera of the Philippines in the sixth rund. Burnett's last fight came in November, a loss in the World Boxing Super Series when a surprise back injury forced him to quit after four rounds. This time, the biggest problem Burnett had was keeping his body shots above Gomera's belt line. Burnett was penalized a point (in his his hometown) in round six for low blows, but later in the round, he landed a legal body shot that caused Gomera to turn his back on the action, which convinced the referee to stop the bout. Burnett is now 20-1, and is levels above Gomera, who drops to 14-6. source: the irish echo
