Jason Medi wins battle of Congolese light heavies

Jason Medi TKO5 Jimmy Mabundjii... Congolese light heavyweight Jason Medi put on an excellent performance on Wednesday night at the Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg, South Africa. In what was supposed to be his toughest fight to date, Medi dominated compatriot Jimmy Mabundjii from the first round until Mabundjii retired on his stool before the start of round six. Both Media and Mabundjii currently reside in South Africa. Mabundjii, nicknamed “The Beast”, is a former super middleweight, but he is known to be a resilient and game fighter. Medi, however, was just too sharp for him. Medi has now won seven straight since losing his pro debut in 2022, and goes to 7-1 with 3 KOs. Mabundjii, a pro since 2010, drops to 10-8 with 8 KOs. This was only his second loss inside the distance. The fight was the main event of “Breakthrough V”, promoted by Manny Fernandes and his BRD Boxing Promotions.
